Many, Many Thanks to our Major Sponsors/Donors:

CEMEX GE 1948 44-Ton Locomotive

CEMEX USA has graciously donated their GE 1948 44-Ton locomotive to the Society for placement at the Calhan Depot!

It was running as of a year ago, and just may need to have the battery charged.

At right is a photo of a Rock Island Whitcomb 44-ton engine which is quite similar. We were originally told that the CEMEX loco was an ex-Rock Island engine, but the Rock didn't use GE engines of this model. However, the D&RGW did, as did UP, ATSF, NYC, and a lot of others. There is nothing saying that the Rock wouldn't have used them, so we in most probability will paint it like the one in the Rock loco photo at right.

February 2020: Denver and Salt Lake Railway rail and ties are ready to go to Calhan (pictured below and bottom right). The rail was manufactured in Colorado in 1936. We were kindly given 200 feet of rail, ties, fish plates, spikes and a buffer that had once had the cars and engines of the Denver and Salt Lake running over them 70+ years ago. They were off a stub that hadn't been used in years and years. Brannan Sand and Gravel in Denver donated to us, and graciously pulled them up and stacked them for us for trans shippment to Calhan for our new diesel to rest on. It is really a decent gesture on their part. Great people and company. Many thanks to their hard working crew that did this for us.
